2018 John Winter Family Fund Award Winner

Jack's letter to Drums Along The Mohawk:

Without a doubt, last summer was one of the greatest summers of my life. I had the opportunity to march my rookie season of DCI with 7th Regiment was one of the coolest, most rewarding experiences that I have ever been a part of. Traveling thousands of miles, sleeping in a bus or on a gym floor, waking up in a new city, state, or even time zone each morning, some people would say that this activity is crazy and ask why someone would spend money to do this, and even I think that to myself every once in a while. But, walking out of the tunnel and onto the field, seeing all of those people who pay to watch us do what we love, there is no better feeling in the world.

One particular day on tour last year that sticks out to me was our one show day in Ohio. It was our last show before Open Class championships, and it was our biggest show of the season to date. We went out there that night and had a fantastic run, probably our best run of the season, the people of Avon Lake loved what we were doing, and we felt great. And when we went off the field to meet with the staff and debrief, our visual designer started to cry, and then we started to cry. It was the release of emotion following the corps biggest triumph of the season to date, and that is a moment I’ll never forget.

Now, as we move on to the 2018 DCI season, I’m looking forward to playing clean beats with my 2nd family, and getting to travel the country yet again, making more memories with the people that I love.

Recommendation - Matthew Bronson, Front Ensemble Coordinator, 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, New London, CT
